The First Durban Cat Club Show - Durban Jewish Club - 20 July 2014
When the required minimum number of entries for an International WCF show was not reached, there was the possibility of having to cancel the 47th CASA show planned in Durban. This would be a great disappointment for the exhibitors who had already entered and were looking forward to the show. The newly formed Durban Cat Club club stepped in and saved the day. The committee decided to take over the show and run it according to WCF rules and style, apart from a smaller number of entries in the catalogue and not under the WCF logo. The "experiment" was a great success and at the end of a happy day, the consensus was that there should be many more and that the Durban Cat Club has the potential to be a real asset to the Cat Fancy in Kwazulu-Natal and South African.
This was also the first Sunday show in Durban and it proved to be a successful move from the traditional Saturday. It was also a new venue for cat shows in Durban. The Durban Jewish club is a grand old building and the show hall is large, airy and well appointed for cat shows. It has ample, safe parking and is very central. The next show in September is also planned at this venue.
Four judges officiated at the show and there was enough time to discuss the cats with the exhibitors and judge at a leisurely pace. The Best In Show followed the WCF rules and it was difficult to select the Overall Best from the various Best in Category winners. The wonderful prizes sponsored by Hills and originally allocated for a WCF show were awarded to the various winners and really appreciated by the owners.
The show was preceded by an AICA show, which is by now a tradition in Durban. After the DCC show followed a SACATS Ring Show. This meant that the exhibits had the full show experience as before in KZN. May there be many more.

In memory of Roy Wood.
The show was dedicated to the memory of Roy Wood. Roy, together with his wife, Carol, was instrumental in making all the previous WCF and Independent shows in KZN the great successes that they were and worked tirelessly for and during all the shows.
Roy & Carol would be the first at the show hall and usually the last to leave, taking care of catering, getting donations, organising the entrance, sound system, ensuring that the hall was swept, as well as too many other things to mention. They also provided accommodation for visiting show managers and judges.
Carol and Roy bred beautiful Russian Blues, Whites and Blacks. Carol is continuing with the Silversheen cattery. Roy's dedication and enthusiasm was an inspiration to us all. Sady, he passed away shortly before this show and could not experience it personally. The show started with a minute of silence in Roy's memory.
